What is a Rails Camp?

Imagine yourself and a group of Ruby programmers near the top of a mountain for a weekend of talks, hacking, and fun.

To stay informed and chat with other campers leading up to the camp please join the #railscamp channel on the Ruby NZ Slack.

Things which may or may not happen:

  • Hacking (bring a project idea!)
  • Learning (bring a speaking topic)
  • Werewolf
  • Eating & drinking (see below)
  • Meeting amazing people
  • General merriment

We'll be back around Christchurch for 2017 at the fantastic Mt Cheeseman Ski Lodge. We were last at this venue for Rails Camp #4 back in 2014 and it's a really great experience.

Tickets start at $289 NZD and include accommodation, 3 meals a day & snacks for the duration of the camp, and buses there and back from Christchurch Airport.

Please arrive at Christchurch Airport on Friday, February 24th before 3:00PM (and a bit earlier is wise, especially for international flights).

We'll get you back to Christchurch Airport in time for flights departing after 12:00PM on Monday, February 27th.

What to bring?

  • A sleeping bag & pillow case.
  • A towel.. but you take that everywhere, right?
  • Clothes for Christchurch but importantly MOUNTAIN weather. Mostly likely relatively cool during the day and cold at night. Check the forecast before you pack. We have plenty of indoor space for if the weather turns nasty.
  • All necessary chargers / power adapters for any electronic equipment you intend to bring.
  • Any medication you require and additional necessary items with you.
  • You will be sharing dorm/bunk-room style accommodation with other attendees, so bring ear plugs/eye mask if you feel you will need them.
  • There may be separate rooms available for women, and families. Please get in touch if this is especially important to you.
